Strawberry Custard Gratin

This is literally a no-fuss dessert. I made it as a late evening tv snack.

What you need:

  • strawberry’s, halved
  • vanilla custard
  • brown sugar

Place strawberries in a small ovenproof dish. Pour custard over. Sprinkle with brown sugar.

Put under heated grill until the top is browned. Ready to eat!

It’s also very tasty with some fresh cream squirted over.

Recipe from The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Impropmtu dessert

Ok, maybe I’m liking this impromptu thing alot. I made this dessert by just throwing what I had together. Luckily I did not eat the flake I had bought from the day before. I just used crushed boudoir, custard and fresh cream.

As seen above, layer custard with boudoir and squirt fresh cream over last layer. Sprinkle with flake.

If you prefer the biscuit to soften first – leave it for about 10 – 15 minutes before adding the fresh cream and flake.

Custard Tart

This is a very easy flop proof recipe. If you’re not that much into baking like me… you will still be able to pull this one off.

Base:

2 cups flour
125g butter
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1t baking powder
salt

Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Use a beater if you want – I prefer using my hand. Add egg and mix well. Add remaining ingredients to form a dough. If you find it a bit soft – add a little more flour and milk if needed. Press into pie dish and bake on 180ºC for ±20 mins. Let it cool before adding custard.

Filling – make custard as you normally would. I don’t usually like instant stuff and they usually taste horrible – but I found Moir’s instant custard to be very tasty – like how you would normally make it on the stove. Just add boiling water to it and whisk. Pour into crust. Dust with cinnamon powder. I leave mine in the fridge for a bit before serving.
